Frequently Asked Questions

  • What’s the difference between Olympic Weightlifting vs. regular lifting?

Regular lifting usually means going to the gym to get stronger or build muscle with exercises like bench press, curls, or machines. Olympic Weightlifting is a sport that focuses only on two lifts — the snatch, and the clean & jerk. These lifts are more technical and athletic, combining strength, speed, and coordination. Instead of just moving weight, you’re learning a skill — almost like practicing a sport — and the goal is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one smooth motion.

  • I’m a CrossFitter and I want to get better at the Olympic lifts for CrossFit. Will this help me?

Absolutely. While CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting are different sports, the lifts themselves don’t change. By learning proper technique, timing, and efficiency in the snatch and clean & jerk, you’ll not only become a stronger, more confident weightlifter but also improve your overall performance in CrossFit. Better lifts mean better WOD times, safer reps, and more consistency under fatigue.

  • Do I need to be strong or in shape before starting Olympic Weightlifting?

Not at all. Olympic Weightlifting is actually one of the best ways to build strength, mobility, and athleticism. You don’t need to come in with a certain fitness level — our program is designed to meet you where you’re at and help you progress safely, step by step.

  • I am a CrossFitter and I want to specialize in Olympic Weightlifting. Will it be easier for me since I’ve already done the lifts?

Yes and no. Having experience with the lifts definitely gives you a head start — you already know the movements and aren’t starting from zero. However, specializing in Olympic Weightlifting often means slowing things down, refining technique, and breaking old habits that may not transfer well. That’s where coaching comes in. We’ll help you fix those inefficiencies and rebuild your lifts so you can reach your full potential as a weightlifter.
